SHO Club's new 1991
Mocha/Mocha SHO Plus

After years of searching, I finally found what I think is about the best, lowest mile, 1991 Mocha (gold) paint, Mocha Leather SHO with the Plus package I will be able to find.

The car is a Southern California car, living its entire life in Orange county.  It has under 49,000 miles on it after the 2000 mile drive to Illinois.  It has every option except the factory CD changer and the first (and only owner till I bought the car) owner solved that by adding a Sony 10 disk CD changer.

The 1991 Mocha was a very low production paint color with something like 2500 of them being made.  Out of those, maybe 1/3 had the Plus option package with plastic "power bulge" hood, trunk spoiler, 24V DOHC badges on the front fenders, black mirrors, black B and C pillars, body color accent on the lower body cladding and body color "Taurus" badge on the trunk.  This car was built in 5-91 and must have been one of the first to get the ROD shifter as we were originally told that ROD shifters were installed after 6-91 in the assembly plant, but we since know that many were installed in May.

The owner had window tint (this was California) installed along with what appears to be some sort of paint protection coating that is now looking bad and is coming off as I detail the car inch by inch.  A nice dash cover kept the dash from getting beat up by the sun.  Minimal interior wear is present and the carpets are in very good shape.  In the picture below, it needs cleaning but what looks like cracks in the leather are not through the color coat.  The seats will clean up very nice.

The Engine compartment will take the most time to make look nice.  The battery area is badly acid damaged, but not so much that it can't be made to look decent.  The motor is quiet and strong and in the 2000 mile trip to Illinois from California, it used only about 1/4 of a quart of oil.  That means it might use less than a quart in 8000 miles!  The clutch works nice but is very stiff, so it might need a new clutch in not too many miles.

The things that need immediate attention include fixing a steering wobble at most speeds, probably tire related, and a pull to the left that might also be tire related.  The A/C will need a little attention and the radio quit on me when I drove it the second time, so that will need to be sent in for repair.  All things that are to be expected on a car that is almost 12 model years old.

There is a pretty good dent in the RR fender right behind the rear door, that can probably be taken out without any paint work by a good "dent doctor" type expert.  A few other blemishes do not make the car any less a joy to behold, and can be dealt with as time and money permit.

It was important for me to find a stock, unmolested example of my dream SHO.  This car meets all the most important requirements and I have already started cleaning on the paint and working on it.

I will be keeping my 1989 Titanium SHO that has become much more than just a "keeper" it is a friend and trusted ally in on-track fun.  The 89 might lose some of the extra weight and accessories it has collected over the years and become a lean-mean racing machine, leaving the 91 to cover the SHOw car circuit!

I hope you enjoyed seeing the new "Gold Standard" in my home town.  Many people asked to see pictures, so I created this page.

Thanks to Ron Porter and Ryan Dudek for bringing my Mocha/Mocha 91 SHO Plus to me from California, safe and sound.

Thanks to Tom and Vadim at the SHO Shop for checking out this car for me so I could buy it, and picking it up from the previous owner.  They then did a check-out to make sure Ron would not have any trouble on the way to Illinois, and replaced some stuff that needed immediate attention like a stuck thermostat, overcharging alternator and leaking power steering cooler.
