Check out these brake pads for dual purpose work!

I had a chance to talk to the product and sales people at Hawk Brake at a WD show a couple of weeks ago. I have known for awhile that Hawk (a division of Welman Friction) supplied some or all of the friction material to CarboTech. I asked them as to why the "F" and "P" compounds had been discontinued.

Well guess what - they haven't, Hawk just cut off CarboTech as a customer because of "some business issues". It is true that Hawk does not currently carry the real D598 pads for the '96
front brake upgrade in any material. They like most, just call out the D601 size pad for the '96-99 SHO. I pointed that out to them and they are looking into adding the D598 application. They told me that CarboTech bought the specific compounds in a larger size pad puck and cut it down to the D598 size and then bonded it to the D598 backing plate. Hawk actually was thinking of buying CarboTech to do similar types of specialty "job shop" type work. But after their falling out, Hawk may decide to setup their own internal specialty group.

So if you are running pads other than the front D598 size, Hawk can current supply the old CarboTech "F" compound (trackable street compound), which is equivalent to their HPS material and the old CarboTech "P" compound (streetable track compound), which was from time to time equivalent to their HP Plus material. Apparently CarboTech used two different suppliers for the "P" compound pad material. BTW, if you are running the PBR, Wilwood or Alcon calipers, Hawk has several materials in those pads sizes as well as different thickness depending on the rotor thickness that you are running.

I just picked up a set of Hawk HP Plus D412 front pads to use at Summit Point. That way I can save my CarboTech "F" or HPS front pads for the drive home ;)
