In 1986, Mike Klein (my dad) and fellow UAW laborer Will Johnston built the FIRST Taurus SHO, at the special build prototype shop at Carron and Company in Inkster, MI. They fabricated custom motor mounts and electrical harnesses, and mounted the engine, fitting it to an Escort 5-speed manual gearbox, and transplanting a Mustang scoop onto the stock hood to make it fit properly. After building the prototype, it was driven around a bit, and crated back up and shipped back to Japan.

This was the actual 3.0L Yamaha crate motor in the shop before installation:
