Forgive the S-10 truck, but check out the Gen. III that we tailed
going around yet another neat set of curves.

In Northern Indiana, the route took us across a very long bridge over a portion of a neat
lake. Note that the water level is down, it was a dry summer in 1999 and 2000.
Still, we caught a boat snaking its way towards the bridge and my lovely wife
provided a pose.
I will mention that we didn't get pictures of the wildest
roads. We were too busy hanging on! Some curves were so wild that you did not
EVER see the curve except in your rear view mirror. I kid you not. Only on a
Motorcycle or go-kart could you see the road drop and turn on one curve. You just
had to take the sign and the convention instructions at their word and have faith.
For those that would like to duplicate what we
did in Indiana, here is a short list of the great roads we found:
Route 47 between mile marker 36 on I 74 and mile
marker 146 on I-65
Route 47 from Crawfordsville off I-74 to Route 41.
Drop down south then on 41 to Rockville Indiana in Western IN. Go
to the visitors center on the east side of town on route 36 and pick up a covered bridge
map. Follow any of the four covered bridge routes. I like the Yellow route
best but do all four if you have the time.
Route 58 from mile marker 64 south of Indianapolis on I-65 to
Bedford. Then take Route 50 SW out of Bedford to route 150. Take Route 150 at
that point SE to Prospect. While there turn right (South) onto 56 and visit the
French Lick area and see the Carlsbad at West Baden tourist attraction. Stop at the
French Lick Winery and Bed & Breakfast for great wine and cheese to take to a state
park for a picnic!
Route 135 from Bloomington IN to Salem is listed as a scenic
road, but I guarantee that Route 58 is better. If you have time, try to do both
though.
Those that attended Indiana probably won't ever
forget these wonderful roads. If you would like to experience these again, or some
similar, then attend the 2001 Convention to find even more fun roads in NE Oklahoma.
