The Mallinson clan (Don and Jan) will be taking
off Sunday at Noon from Washington, IL. Plan on arriving in Madison about
4:30pm.
Our first stop will be at El Paso Illinois at the intersection of Route 24 and Interstate 39, just north of Bloomington, IL about 12:30pm.
We will hit the Rockford IL area about 2:30 or 2:45 pm. We will probably stop somewhere before getting on the short stretch of toll road, but that isn't planned just yet.
Next stop probably at the hotel about 4:30 or 5pm.
We will be hosting a get-together Sunday night at a great
local restaurant in a building from the civil war era, the Stamm
House. Check the main convention page for details or check the
mailing you will get before the convention.
If you plan on
joining us at any point, please call at 309-444-9683 or
send an e-mail Our cell
phone is 309-370-4359 if you want to reach us on the road. We will be
on CB/FRS channel 11 (in honor of the 11th annual convention, to make it
easier to remember).

Ron Porter will officially kick off the Caravan at the Ernie Pyle Service Plaza on westbound I-80/I-90 (Indiana Toll
Road). The Plaza is approximately at Mile Marker (MM) 126, and is a few miles west of the intersection of I-69 and the Toll Road in eastern Indiana. We will meet in the Plaza around 8:30 AM on Monday July 14th, and leave by 9:00 AM. We will proceed west on the Toll Road. After a rest stop in Indiana, we will enter Illinois and take I-294 (the Tri-State
Toll way) north to I-55. We will take I-55 to I-355, and go northbound to I-88. Turning westbound on I-88, we will arrive at the Naperville Road exit around Noon, where we will stop for lunch. The meeting spot will be Chevy’s Fresh Mex on Naper Blvd, although there are a number of restaurants, including fast food, in the immediate area. This is also the gas stop. Continuing west on I-88 at no later than 1:00 PM, we will then take I-39 north, which then connects with I-90, which will take us to Madison. We should arrive at the hotel around 4:00 PM. There are stops planned approximately every 1.5 hours along the way.
If you are going to participate in the Caravan, I would appreciate an RSVP to
rsporter@prodigy.net or call
to 248-891-4760. Let me know where you plan on meeting up with us, and include your cell phone number if you have one.
We will be also be monitoring FRS Channel 11 (It’s the 11th SHO Convention!). I will also provide
window signs with the Convention
logo (Adobe PDF format) for your left rear window during the Caravan.
Anyone can join us at any point along the Caravan route. If you do so, you may want to check with me via cell phone to see if we are on schedule. I’m not bringing a CB radio along; as we have found that FRS radios work well within the caravan, and cell phones work better beyond the FRS radio range.
More to come
As other caravans are sent to us they will be listed
here.
Extra Notes
This notice comes to us from
"I am on I-90 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. SHO convention-goers from the
northwestern states will pass within two miles of my home. "If anyone would like to lay over in La Crosse (on the way to or from),
let me know and I'll fire up the grille. "I have two SHOs and would like to have both of them at the convention
(92 for Blackhawk, 91 for drag). Is there anyone traveling I-90 who could help me by loaning me a second driver?"
